Important SSA Update: No More Paper Benefit Checks Starting September 30, 2025

If you currently receive your Social Security benefits by paper check, you’ll need to take action soon. Starting September 30, 2025, federal benefit payments will switch almost entirely to electronic payments. This change is happening to make payments safer, faster, and easier for everyone.

How to Get Your Benefits Electronically

  1. Direct Deposit – If you have a checking or savings account, set up direct deposit through your my Social Security account or call 1-800-772-1213 for help.
  2. Direct Express® Card – Don’t have a bank account? You can use this prepaid debit card option. To enroll, call 1-800-333-1795 or visit usdirectexpress.com.
